Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Simon Bienvenu (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects your information when you use the FO-CAL app (the “App”). We are the data controller for the personal information described below. If you have any questions you can reach us at modiford@gmail.com.

We collect only what we need to run the App and provide your subscription:

• Account information. The email address you use to create an account, and any name you choose to provide.
• Photographs of food. When you use the meal scanner, restaurant mode, takeaway mode, before and after scan or fridge scan, the photograph you take is sent for analysis so the App can estimate the calories and nutrition of the food shown.
• Health and nutrition information you enter. Your goal, age, sex, activity level, diet preferences, allergies, units, height and weight where you provide them, and the meals, portions and calorie entries you log. This is used to calculate your daily energy requirement and to show your progress.
• Subscription information. When you subscribe, your payment is processed by Apple through the App Store and we never see or store your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage and verify your subscription status, which involves an app assigned identifier and your purchase history, for example which plan you are on and whether it is active.
• Technical and diagnostic information. Standard information such as your device type, operating system version, app version and crash or error data, used to keep the App working and to fix problems.

We use your information to:

• Estimate the calories and nutrition in the food you photograph.
• Calculate your daily targets and show your progress towards your goal.
• Generate meal ideas, food swaps and answers from the in-app AI coach.
• Set up, manage and renew your subscription, and to restore purchases.
• Respond to your support requests.
• Diagnose problems, improve the App and keep it secure.
• Meet our legal and tax obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the App, and only as far as needed:

• Apple for app distribution and for processing your subscription payment.
• RevenueCat for managing and verifying your subscription status.
• Our AI analysis provider for processing the food photographs you submit, so that the App can return a calorie and nutrition estimate.
• Our hosting and backend provider, which stores your account and the entries you create.

We may also disclose information if we are required to do so by law, or to protect our rights, safety or property.

Photographs you take in the App are used to produce your calorie and nutrition estimate and to save the meal against your log where you choose to. They are not sold, and they are not used to build advertising profiles about you.

Some of our providers are based outside the UK. Where information is transferred internationally it is protected by appropriate safeguards as required by UK data protection law.

We keep your account information and the entries you create for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account we will remove your personal information, except where we are required to keep certain records, for example for tax or legal reasons.

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, to object to certain processing, and to receive a copy of your information. To exercise any of these, contact us at modiford@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

FO-CAL is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
